8 Spring Break Sewing Projects for Beginners

Spring is on it’s way in the Northern Hemisphere, and with that often comes school vacations.  Or maybe you’ve got a case of the rainy-day-stuck-inside blues and you need a fun sewing or craft project for a bored kid or teen.  Here are some projects we found that might tame the boredom monster during Spring Break!

Easter Egg Placemat

This is a super cute placemat to make to add to your spring holiday tabletop!  If you didn’t want to tackle binding, you could leave the edges with a more unfinished look and just sew a line of stitching 1/4 inch away from the edge.

Bunny Bags

Make your own reuseable candy collectors with this bunny bag tutorial.  These would be fun to make for gifts as well.

Upcycled Braided Basket

If you can braid hair, you can make this project (and even if you’ve never braided before)!   Another cool feature of this cute little basket is that you can upcycle clothes you’ve outgrown, or clothes you find in thrift shops.

Embroidered Hanging Bird

This little decorative project can be as easy or complex as the abilities your kid or teen.  It’s a great opportunity to learn some new embroidery stitches, but could also be completed with just 1 or 2 types of hand stitches.  There’s so much room for creativity too!

Fabric Flowers

Spring flowers not blooming in your neck of the woods yet?  Brighten up any room of the house by making your own blooms!  This is a great early beginner project because it only requires cutting, gluing and a little hand sewing.  It’s also very quick, so anyone can enjoy a sense of accomplishment.
