Using Coloring Sheets to Plan Sewing Projects

Ever sew an entire project together, and then decide that you didn’t like how it looked?  Maybe the colors just didn’t go together the way you thought they would, or you end up with waaaay too much of one color, and not enough of another.  Well, never fear, StitchPop for Kids is here to save the day!

One great way to plan out any kind of sewing project, and quilt blocks in particular, is to use coloring sheets.  Coloring sheets give you the chance to try different color combinations and arrangements.  Maybe you’re not sure if green and red will look good together, or you want to see if you want more purple or more blue in a particular design.  Coloring sheets let you experiment as long as your paper supply lasts before ever cutting into your fabric.  Coloring sheets help you make decisions about color and pattern that are sometimes hard to make without seeing it visually.  We’ve linked a couple fun quilt block patterns below to get you started.  You can also search online for other patterns, or draw your own!

Janessa and I decided to each color the same coloring sheet with the same colors to see how each of our unique creative senses showed up.  You can definitely tell which of us is more gifted at drawing, and who should maybe become a fabric designer someday!!!!   Let us know what you think, then try it out yourself!
